It is not recommended that these are used for stairs; the hardware mounted gates are a lot more effective for stairs.

Pressure mounted child gates are a lot more popular because of the fact that they are cheaper. They still work very well though they might not last as long as the hardware type gates, people still prefer them. If take good care of the pressure mount child gates, they still last for a pretty long time. If you plan on having more than one child, then the child gate is definitely something that you will not want to add to the stack or items that you plan on getting rid of.
